Usually the crankshaft is not balanced properly, but there can be any number of things that can cause this. I would talk to a mechanic, and soon, if you don't know how to check for this. By the way, most original beetles do shake a little naturally. This is due to the design (opposed four) of the engine and the firing pattern.
