There is a sensor on the air breather which (internally) is made up of small strips of foil and if these strips get contaminated they stick together and trigger the light to come on. This happened to my 04 1.4 Octavia and it turned out to be a leaking exhaust box (back).light was on for a week but car was running ok; after fixing exhaust it took about a week for the light to go off itself.Other cause can be the switch itself but i would not change this until everything else is eliminated (switch is expensive). Other causes can be a problem with petrol mixture or anything that will cause the engine to lose power. If a fault is found and it is not the sensor i would not consider changing sensor for a few weeks as it will probably clear itself. The light on will not cause any problem, it only tells you that there is a problem. It is also worth checking that your fuel filler cap is on properly.
Reset the exhaust emission warning light by turning the ignition on and off 40 times. Light codes can be read by the old brake/accelerator press and turn the ignition on.
The emissions warning light refers to a problem with the exhaust system. The most common problem with the exhaust system is a plugged catalytic converter.

The exhaust emission warning light on a Skoda Fabia can be triggered by several issues, including a malfunctioning catalytic converter, faulty oxygen sensors, or problems with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. It may also indicate issues with the fuel system, such as a clogged fuel injector or a fuel leak. Additionally, a loose or damaged gas cap can cause this warning light to illuminate. It's essential to diagnose the specific issue with an OBD-II scanner for accurate troubleshooting.

The warning sign related to emissions in a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI typically indicates a problem with the vehicle's exhaust system, such as issues with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) or the engine management system. Service personnel may be unable to remove this warning if the underlying issue hasn't been resolved; for example, if the DPF is clogged or there are fault codes present in the engine control unit (ECU) that need addressing first. Until those faults are fixed, the warning will remain active, as it serves to alert the driver to a potentially harmful condition affecting emissions compliance.
