traction control indicator
I had the same scare, it simply means your BMW is telling you that it is cold outside and to drive accordingly. It should go away after a couple seconds.
Yellow triangle is the traction control light, It comes on( flashes) if you get wheelspin, like on an M# in the rain;). It will stay on if you turn DSC off, or if you have a wheel speed sensor problem(asb light would also be on)

TRACTION
There are a variety of warning lights on the dashboard of a 1998 BMW 528i. The light with an exclamation point is the drive off assistant light and also can indicate a problem with the traction control.
I get that red triangle with the exclamation whenever I lose traction on the road...i guess its letting you know to drive slower or just be aware that you're losing traction....i also had that light come on for a few hrs when i my friends battery died and i gave her a boost.
