Well there are coups which have "hard" roofs
Then there are cabriolets they are convertibles aka rag tops
And targa is a bit of both because it has a removable panel so you get a convertible experience but it's also a hard top in the winter.
In practice there are some issues.
It's not the full top down experience of a convertible.
Old ones tend to leak
From a purists point of view the targa is less rigid and heavier
Targa Literally Means " Shield" or " Plate" . The name comes from a famous race Porsche always did well in . The Targa Florio . The prize was the "Florio Shield" The name Targa was then adopted for the now Iconic Porsche Targa.

The main difference between a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera and a Porsche 911 Targa lies in their body styles. The Carrera is a coupe with a fixed roof, while the Targa features a removable roof panel and a distinctive roll bar, combining elements of both coupe and convertible designs. Both models share similar performance characteristics and engine options, but the Targa offers a more open-air driving experience. Additionally, the Targa typically weighs slightly more due to its added structural components.
In 2011, Porsche produced a limited number of Targa models as part of the 911 series. Specifically, the 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S were available that year. Exact production numbers for specific models can vary, but Porsche typically manufactures a few thousand units of each variant annually. For precise figures, it's best to consult official Porsche production records or enthusiast resources.
The Porsche 911 SC Targa, produced from 1978 to 1983, features a flat-six engine, which means it has six cylinders. This engine configuration is a hallmark of the 911 series, providing a balance of power and performance characteristic of Porsche vehicles.
The Porsche 911 Targa 930 refers to a variant of the iconic Porsche 911, specifically from the 930 generation produced between 1975 and 1989. The Targa model features a distinctive removable roof panel and a fixed rear window, offering a blend of coupe and convertible characteristics. Known for its turbocharged engine and sporty performance, the 930 Targa combines the classic 911 design with the unique Targa style, making it a sought-after collector's item.
