For XJ6 4.0 Liter engines, the oil capacity is 8 quarts.
My 1990 takes 8-1/2 quarts, not positive if 1992 is the same capacity
mine is a 92 xj6 and in the car handbook it has all the stuff jaguar reccommend. but i use castrol high mileage.jaguar reccommend castrol products.

HSMO mineral oil (it's green). You can buy it online, it runs about 10.00 for a quart.

i have a 1991 sovereign xj6 and i have the same problem, BUT the gauge would show correct levels when accelerating
only buy on jaguar deales because is special mineral oil.
i had a 1985 xj6 for 18 yrs. my mech. always used 20w50 in mine. never had a problem

Jaguar recommends 10w-30 for 1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas
try castrol oil stabilizer - it will stabilize the oil and reduce the leak.
