The Park Distance Control, or PDC, is a set of sensors that allow a driver to assess the distance of an object behind them when reversing, generally to park. An acoustic signal, starting at a low frequency, increases frequency as the driver gets closer to the object (car) behind them.

If one lives in a wet, snowy or very cold locale, the PDC is known to freeze up, (incorrectly) triggering the PDC FAILURE message. One's should first defrost and/or dry the PDC module (located in the trunk of the vehicle) with a hairdryer, fan or other ambient (and not dangerous) heat/air source. If the PDC FAILURE message stays on, then one may need to replace the sensor.
