The bore and stroke of a 406 small block Chevy (SBC) engine typically measure 4.125 inches for the bore and 3.80 inches for the stroke. This combination allows the engine to displace 406 cubic inches, making it a popular choice for high-performance applications. The larger bore and stroke contribute to enhanced power and torque characteristics.
A small block Chevrolet (SBC) 400 engine has a stock bore of 4.125 inches and a stroke of 3.750 inches. If you bore the engine "40 over," it increases the bore by 0.040 inches, resulting in a new bore of 4.165 inches. To calculate the cubic inches, use the formula: ( \text{Cubic Inches} = \text{Bore}^2 \times \text{Stroke} \times \pi / 4 \times \text{Number of Cylinders} ). This results in approximately 406 cubic inches.
The stock bore was 4.125". The bore of a 406 would be 4.155"

no you cannot. most engines .06 overbore is usually the safe limit. on a 350 .06 only gives you 10 more cubic inch. to get to 400 you would need to bore and stroke it. which gets very expensive. youd be better off looking for a 400 from a donor vehicle.

it is a 30 over 350
