The "S" button (if it is like the one in my my XJ8) likely switches the transmission into "Sport" mode. Sport mode will require the transmission to run into the top-end engine RPM of the individual gear.
In the glove compartment.

Answer: No, I called Mobil and they said they do not make Mobil 1 oil filter for Jaguar and the next best things is to use Mobil 1 oil but buy your oil filter from the Jaguar Dealership. Now I always buy Jaguar Dealership's oil filter for my 2002 Jaguar S-Type Sport and My 2006 Jaguar S-Type R. I have over 160,000 miles on 2002 jaguar and it still runs like a new engine.
Ihave a 2000 s type and my battery is in the trunk, under the hatch in the trunk floor. I believe it would be the same for the 2002.
It is located inside the gas tank
6 quarts.
Check plugWhat type do you have? On the X-type- fill plug is a rubber plug on top of the tranny. The check is-remove the Allen plug about 6-8 inches from the fill plug, add till fluid flows out. Engine must be on. I have a new style s type. Any idea how to check this?Where is the Allen plug located from the fill plug? Underneath trans, side or top? We have a 2002 all wheel drive automatic transmission Xtype.
It has an independent suspension because it uses the same platform as a Jaguar S-Type.
