Yes if your power steering system is low, it does not use conventional power steering fluid, it uses a mineral power steering fluid called Pentosin CHF 11s. You should be able to order it from your local auto parts store. Or go to your local BMW dealership.

the power steering service port is not easily visible. it is located under / aft of the alternator. it has a black cap and on the cap it says atf. BMW does not use power steering fluid they use atf in place of power steering fluid. please do not attempt to service the power steering fluid while the engine is hot. you will burn yourself. access to the cap could also be frustrating. use dextron III fluid. if your power steering is making noise and difficult to turn the wheel there might be a leak if you have never done anything to the power steering component. this is a easy troubleshooting tip to see if you have a bad hose. check the ground where you park or put cardboard under your car to see if you have a leak.
Power steering fluid is basically clear. Some cars use transmission fluid in the power steering which is dark red. You can use power steering fluid in cars that use transmission fluid but not the reverse. The cap of the reservoir should say power steering fluid only.
