This is also refered to as the timing belt. Volvo recommends replacement every 110,000 miles. But recent evidence of failed belts, point to a sooner change. To be safe, replace it before 90,000. It is easy to look at, pull back the access cover on the top left side if the engine. If it shows signs of cracking or the back side is worn shiny (due to a failing idler wheel, which you can hear as a oscillating squeal) change it as soon as possible!
when do i change a cam belt on a mazda 2
It has a chain
You MUST replace the cam belt every 50,000 miles on this Volvo. Warning: This is an interference engine.
The cam belt drives the cam, keeping it in time. If the cam belt breaks, the engine not only will not run, but could be damaged. Make sure to change the belt at the recommended intervals.
Typical cam belt change interval is 70,000 miles
The book says every 80,000miles/128,000Km. Your best option in order to be sure that your engine will not be damaged like result of a broken belt is to change it (timing belt) every 62,500miles/100,000Km. Don't forget to replace also belt tensioners. Good luck
