This part sits on top of the transmission. Look just behind the intake manifold. It is not easy to get to. Suggest you get a transmission shop to handle the work...probably less than $200. If you are trying to do this to correct shift problems, suggest you on wrong trail...try a shift control unit, which is located near the speed sensor. Unless your tachometer and speedometer are acting up, look at the shift control unit. It does seem to go out after 100k.
As general rule speed sensors on cars were always located in the gearbox or automatic transmission. This would be the first place to start, however modern transmissions have the sensors built in and its unlikely they are user changeable.
Where is speed censor on mercury cougar
The speed sensor is located on the back of the transmission, right before you get to the drive shaft you will see it sticking out.
My 1991 Mercury Cougar LS 3.8 4 Speed Automatic weighs in around 3800lbs.
The maximum speed of a 1971 mercury cougar RX-7 automatic 8cyl 285HP is 110 mph or 177.02kph.
On a 2002 Mercury Sable, sensors are located in various key areas including the engine compartment, where you'll find the coolant temperature sensor and mass airflow sensor. The vehicle also has oxygen sensors located in the exhaust system, both upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter. Additionally, other sensors like the wheel speed sensors are situated at each wheel for the anti-lock braking system. Other sensors may include those for the airbag system and the transmission.
Speed sensors are located on the axle
the speed sensors are located on the back side of the rear wheeles.sometimes the abs sensors behind the front rotors are refferd to as speed sensors as well.
A three speed only has one speed sensor. It is located on the case where the right axle shaft comes out. The 4 speed has the two sensors.
The only "sensors" on the transmission are the speed sensor at the top in back, and the range switch on the front.
It does not have a govenor. Speed is computer controlled.
are you sure it is not tail shaft sensor. This would be for your speedometer
