In a 1997 Mercedes-Benz E320, the dipstick is located on the driver's side of the engine bay. You can find it near the back of the engine, typically towards the left side when facing the front of the car. The dipstick is usually marked with a colored handle, often yellow or orange, for easy identification. To check the oil level, simply pull it out, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then remove it again to read the level.
On my 1998 E320, the factory manufactured the transmission without a dipstick. It was assumed it wouldn't need one. I bought one from the dealer and then serviced my transmission with dealer fluid, filter, seals, etc.
