the door sensor is located in the door latch. i had a faulty sensor in my drivers' side door that wouldn't allow the alarm to arm or the courtesy lights to turn off. Latch part number == 3B1-837-015-AS cost USD$183.85 and additional USD$153.00 to install. Removing the fuse would solve the courtesy lights staying on, but not allow the alarm to arm.
The door chime is located inside the driver's side door. It is part of an instrument cluster that controls the interior lights, locks, and alarm.

on the inside of the fuse panel door.
No I have a 2001 vw jetta and the remote will not start the car. You can buy a customized alarm system that will allow you to remotely start the car. A Vw does have remote door unlock and lock
Take out the "Door lock fuse".
take it to a good body shop with a qualified tech!

I am facing the same problem with my 2001 jetta. The door ajar switch is integrated into the locking mechanism of the door. i was told by a mechanic at the vw dealer that the lock needs to be replaced and the part alone is about $200. I am facing the same problem with my 2001 jetta. The door ajar switch is integrated into the locking mechanism of the door. i was told by a mechanic at the vw dealer that the lock needs to be replaced and the part alone is about $200. I had the same problem, but it was solved by spraying a little lubricant on the door latch. I was shocked when it worked because the dealer wanted to charge me $400.
I am having an issue with my drivers side door sensor. I have yet to do anything with it, but from what I know about VWs (i have owned and worked on them for 12 years) the door sensor is located in the door latch. I am currently looking into whether I can replace just the sensor or if i have to replace the whole latch...I read that the latch costs about 150.00. to install it, you would have to remove the door panel which can be tricky.
there is a little switch (button) on the inside of the door frame that tells the car when the door is open the easiest way to find it is to open your door and make sure that the domew light is on then start starting at the the top work your way down past the door hinge and look for any small round buttons if you push it and the dome light goes off you have found the right one. good luck I had the same problem with my 2001 VW Jetta 4 door, the switch that tells the car that the door is open is located inside the door latch. I found this out when I had to replace the door latch. I hope this helps you out.
