In a Volkswagen Cabriolet, the fuel pump relay is typically located in the fuse box, which is usually found in the engine compartment or under the dashboard on the driver's side. The exact position can vary by model year, so it's best to consult the owner's manual for the specific location. Once located, it can be identified by its part number or by checking the diagram usually found on the fuse box cover.

Yes, the 1986 VW Cabriolet has a relay for the fuel pump. This relay is part of the vehicle's electrical system and is responsible for supplying power to the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on. If you're experiencing issues with the fuel pump, checking the relay is a good troubleshooting step. It's typically located in the fuse box or near the fuel pump itself.
The fuel pump on a Volkswagen Cabriol is located inside the gas tank. This allows it to use a more efficient pushing to send fuel to the engine.
Your fuel pump is located there and it could be the bearings on the pump or it could be getting air in the fuel is a lubricant for the bearings and when there is no fuel it is possible you could hear the bearings - my guess your fuel pump is packin up but do check for air leaks
