Why did my Mercedes Benz s350 key is no working again

The hood release for the 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML350 is located inside the vehicle on the driver's side. Look for a lever near the bottom of the dashboard, to the left of the steering wheel. From underneath the car I gave the cable a hard jerk and it released the hood.There is no other way to open the hood
