Check the rubber fuel hoses between the fuel lines and intake system in the engine bay. They may be worn and in need of replacement. You can also "trim" them shorter and use new hose clamps to fasten.
If you smell fumes, you should get out of the room, car, or house. Opening windows will help get rid of the smell.

if same problem as i had you mean the smell of petrol. probably the fuel lead which runs along sort of under the windscreen wipers. so you'll get a good wiff if you put the fan on if its a burning smell it could possibly be your clutch, take it to a garage just to be safe :D
