Opel were never present as a company in the UK, so never made a name change. Opel in Germany and Vauxhall in the UK were separate well-established companies when they taken over by General Motors in the 1920s. They continued as more or less independent entities until the 1980s when their activities and models were merged, but the names continued in their respective countries.
Vauxhall / Opel is owned by General Motors, Vauxhall is in UK and Opel rest of Europe.
Opel is called Vauxhall in the UK due to historical branding decisions. Vauxhall Motors was established in the UK in 1857 and began producing vehicles in the early 20th century. In 1925, Vauxhall was acquired by General Motors, which also owned Opel, a German automobile manufacturer. As a result, Vauxhall became the British brand for Opel vehicles, allowing the company to cater specifically to the UK market while leveraging the established Vauxhall name.
Vauxhall is British but then decided to work together for some reason and now they make the same car. They keep the name Vauxhall for the UK market but Opel for EU. Also Holden is the Australian version and Saturn the American.
the only difference is the badge its a con by vauxhall ----> it's not a con... Opel in UK is simply not as good as Vauxhall. rest of EU is Opel, UK is Vauxhall... other than that, they are perfectly the same car, no difference abosolutely

The Astra and Vectra models are sold by GM in different parts of the world using either the Opel or Vauxhall badges. In the Germany and the Philippines, it is known as the Opel Vectra while in the UK it is known as Vauxhall Vectra. The Calibra model was also sold under the Opel and Vauxhall brand in different countries.
