I am having the same problem with my XK8. It's just been to the garage and transmission was checked - no leaks, which is good (as it's just had a new gearbox put in).

Garage suggests there is a an oil drain as part of the a/c system which sometimes gets fouled up and needs to be cleaned. I am slightly sceptical but car is due to go back into garage - will let you know if this seems to sort it out.
