Possible causes could include:
Failed air-con on/off switch.
Wiring fault.
Compressor clutch fault.
Blown fuse.
No gas in system.
the clutch on the compressor has a fuse and it was blown.
i soldered across the fuse and the clutch is now working.
also if there is not enough gas the clutch will not engage as well.

No. On the Vauxhall Astra 1.4 engine the water. pump is driven by the cam belt. In fact the cam belt is adjusted by twisting the pump body and tightening the three retaining nuts.

To remove the wash pump from a Vauxhall Astra, first, disconnect the vehicle's battery for safety. Then, access the pump by removing the washer fluid reservoir, which may involve unscrewing or unclipping it from its mounting. Once the reservoir is out, disconnect the electrical connector and hoses from the pump, and then unbolt or unclip the pump from the reservoir. Finally, replace or repair as needed before reassembling the components.
i think it may be in the fuel tank, if you lift the rear seat base you will see an access hole to the top of the tank and the unit, safety precautions must be observed before working on this item. i think the pump is part of the sender unit, may be worth getting a second opinion before working on it.
To remove a fuel pump from a Vauxhall Astra fuel tank, first ensure the vehicle is safely elevated and supported. Disconnect the battery and relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel filler cap. Then, access the fuel pump by either removing the rear seat or accessing the tank from underneath, depending on the model. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors, unbolt the pump assembly, and carefully lift it out of the tank.
if you can't hear the motor buzzing when attempting to use it most likely your fuse.... usually a 10amp, but double check before just putting any old one in:) depends on the year:) if ya can hear it but not working blocked hose/squirters is most probable:)
Under the front bonnet, to the right of the engine bay. They are normally purple in colour and i think the fuel pump relay has a fused jumper wire beside it.
1.4 Eight valve engine. The water pump is the timing belt tensioner on this model. you need to slacken the pump and rotate it to tension the belt.
Well, you remove the timing belt to get to it, but they ain't that bad to do. I did a few when i worked for vauxhall and they took me around 4-5 hours
