It would not sell here because it is a poorly made, unreliable vehicle.

Another View:

According to several reputable independent car surveys (e.g. JD Power), Skodas have beaten most European makes in reliability, finish, assembly quality and overall customer satisfaction, causing embarrassment to its German cousins (VW, Audi).

Octavias are among the most popular cars for taxi service and police forces around the world (Ireland, Israel, UK...)

A specially outfitted Octavia exceeded 200 mph at Bonneville last August.

Imagine what such a product would do to the US-made and imported competition.

That is probably part of the reason, the other part being that at present Skoda prefers concentrating on other rapidly growing markets such as China, India, Russia.

So much for the "poorly made, unreliable vehicle"...

Another view:

Skoda may be making quality autos today but that has not always been the case. Under Communist regimes the Skoda was still using 60s technology when every other car manufacture in the world had modernized their vehicles. A bad reputation is hard to overcome but they may very well succeed.

Yet another view:

There is no doubt that Skodas are now one of the most reliable cars there are.
