If your 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E's overload protection relay blows as soon as you turn the key, it may indicate a short circuit in the electrical system, possibly due to damaged wiring or a faulty component. Another possibility is that there is a malfunctioning device connected to the circuit, such as a failing fuel pump or ignition coil. Inspecting the wiring and components related to the relay circuit can help identify the source of the problem. It's advisable to consult a professional mechanic for a thorough diagnosis and repair.
Cold start valve is bad or possibly blown fuse in overload protection relay
The overload protection relay on a 1993 Mercedes 190E is typically located in the engine compartment, near the battery, in a relay box. It can also be found in the fuse box, which is located on the driver's side of the vehicle. Consult the vehicle's service manual for the exact location and identification of the relay to ensure proper handling.
It is directly behind the battery. You have to remove a black plastic cover that is directly under the windshield to expose the relay. Thanks
Could be a problem with the Overload Relay, maybe one of the fuses need replacement!
A faulty over-voltage protection relay in a Mercedes 190E may lead to symptoms such as erratic electrical behavior, including flickering dashboard lights and inconsistent operation of electrical components. The vehicle may experience overcharging, causing the battery to overheat or fail prematurely. Additionally, you might notice a drop in engine performance or difficulty starting the vehicle due to electrical system instability. If these issues arise, it’s advisable to have the relay inspected and replaced if necessary.
ovp relay
If you recently had to use jumper cables you may have blown the 10amp fuse on the Overload Protection Relay. It should be behind the battery with a red coloured lid where the fuse will be. See if the fuse is blown and replace it. If it takes for ever to start and or wont start try this, it worked for me and only cost $1.AnswerFuel pump? Did you check to make sure the pump is working. I'm not sure about the 1986 model, but you should be able to hear it near the gas tank when you turn the key, if you don't hear anything it's most likely the pump or the fuel pump relay. I'm assuming the 1986 has both of these.
The ABS relay on a 1990 Mercedes 190E is located in the engine compartment, specifically in the relay box near the battery. To access it, you'll need to remove the cover of the relay box, where the relays are arranged in a grid. The ABS relay is typically labeled, making it easier to identify. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for precise details and diagrams.
that could be over voltage protection relay failure, check ovp behind battery bay, behind plastic cover at fire wall. there should be 1-2 fuses depending on model yours should have two. if fuse is blown replace and try again. if no fuse is blown try replaceing ovp. they are cheap.
the fuel pump relay is located behind the battery. There should be 2 relays, they look alike, but if you look closely it has fuel pump relay on the top.
To test the fuel pump relay in a Mercedes 190E, first locate the relay in the fuse box. Use a multimeter to check for continuity by connecting the probes to the relay terminals; it should show continuity when energized. Alternatively, you can swap the relay with a similar one in the box to see if the fuel pump operates. If there's still no fuel delivery, the issue may lie elsewhere in the fuel system.
First take a look if the ABS light is on, if yes, check your OVP relay.
