you should probably run a duster thorgh it and/or check the pipes to it with it running =there might be an air leak

If there is no heat coming out of the vents, but there is air coming out on a 2003 Mercedes Benz E-320, check the thermostat to make sure it is not sticking. If this is okay, check the heater core. If the heater core is bad, there will be water on the passenger side floorboard.

Front heater core is in the dash, the rear heater core is all the way in the back of the vehicle. If you have steam coming out of the dash vents, the front HC is leaking. If you have steam coming out of the rear heater vents, then the rear core is leaking.

I have the same problem with my 97 jeep. I'm thinking that maybe a hose going to the vents has come loose, because I can hear the fan motor running and I'm getting a small amount of air out the vents in the dashboard area.
