A somersault is an in-the-air forward flip, taking off from the feet, and landing on the feet.

It is often confused with a forward roll, which takes places on the floor.

It starts with a run, then a leap up and forward accompanied by tucking the head down, and wrapping both arms with a downward slap around the legs below the knees.
