When does max gets the chip out in Maximum Ride?

In the third book, she cuts herself because she wants the chip out so badly, but Fang stops her before she can cut herself any deeper. Later, she tells Dr. Martinez to cut the chip out by surgery. During the surgery, this reveals Max's true feelings Fang, and she also loses the use of her left hand. Later, Jeb tells the flock that the last six months have been a dream, meanwhile Max can use her left hand again and the chip is out. The flock finds out later that Jeb was putting them through a test.
