If you went to the counselor's office alone to discuss your abuser then this is 100% confidential and the abuser would never know. If you went to the counselor together it was the wrong thing to do if it was regarding physical abuse. When physical abuse occurs it can become extremely dangerous and every so often lead to 2nd degree murder. It would be best to escape from your physical abuser and head straight for an Abused Women's Center for protection or even to Mental Health. Mental abuse is a different thing and the only thing that can usually occur from this is arguing and stress. If your partner is physically abusive and you fear retaliation get to an Abused Women's Center as soon as possible. Explain your circumstances. Some physical abusers will move on, but there are a few that will stalk their victim and even harm them. To some physical abusers you are their property or they have a sick kind of love and they'd rather see their victim dead than another man have her. Take this seriously! If your partner is mentally abusive, retain a lawyer, move out and stay with a relative and friend and file for a divorce. Good luck Marcy
