I would think that if you want a guy to get off your back it isn't as simple as saying "go away" or "stop". I am in this exact predicament and i know the exact way to solve it but mine is a little more complicated. My opinion would be to tell him once or maybe even twice you don't like him. Then give him signs. ignore him, don't look at him. Let him know. Give him back the stuff he gave you. Tell him to give up and you have moved on.Maybe even say u got a new boyfriend or actually get a new boyfriend. Make sure you make it clear it is over, or nothing will ever happen and he will soon get over you and move on.
