If she's in the 9th grade I doubt she'd talk to you even if you were the most popular 8th grader.
The fact that you said you're "sort of" popular lets me know that you're not. You either are or you aren't. You're what I like to call an In-Between (check out my site, you'll see what I'm talking about). You have a decent group of friends, but like you said, she's almost never alone. That means she's popular. Add to the fact that you're younger and she doesn't even know you're alive....just leave it alone. Find a nice girl in your grade on your level.

It's a very big stretch from 5th grade to 7th grade. Generally, a 5th grader is too young to date at all. 7th graders are in a different social circle than 5th graders because of the age difference. It would be difficult to get a 7th grader to ask a 5th grader out.
Should 5th graders walk home?
It depends on where they live, and of coarse the guardian's opinion. When I was in 1st grade, I started walking home alone. Although I was young, I think a 5th grader can handle it.
