If he's shy, you're going to have to ask him. He's not going to come out and say it.

It's true he's not coming straight out with whether or not he likes you but that doesn't mean you should make the first move. He could see that as aggression/impatience. Take your time. If he's in to you, he'll let you know in some way. He'll get over his shyness by just being around you and you'll recognize it by noticing him much more relaxed.

The best way is to write an e-mail to him. This way no one can hear you except him and no one will steal the note and read it. Just say this if you like him too:

Since I asked you for your e-mail address, you probably know this already. I like you. Since I told you, you probably know what I'm going to ask you next. Do you like me? No matter what your answer is, I won't reply and yell at you. I won't tell, as long as you don't. Just say yes or no, and we won't talk about it again, unless you want to take it to the next level. Please answer. I really want to know.

If you don't like him start out like this: I'm sorry to say, I don't like you in that way, but I've been suspecting that you may like me.

Then just keep going.

If you can't get his e-mail, then write a note.
