First of all, unless you're a Marine Drill Instructor, you don't BREAK a man; you break a horse. You might try to make an arrogant fellow humble, or at least less arrogant, but you don't break him.

Second, why is this question placed under manners and etiquette? What does humbling someone have to do with manners and etiquette?

To deal with someone who is arrogant you just need to behave in a way where you are polite but confident in your own opinions. If you disagree with him about something just say your response in a "matter of fact" tone of voice but without being snappy or rasing your voice. Just always stay calm and relaxed, and since arrogant people are usually insecure, he will eventually start to trust you.

In my experience as a man, nobody can be "broken" as you describe it. Adults change willingly if they are motivated. I have been in a relationship for 6 years with a woman who has a very strong willed personality. I also have had a similar personality but have managed to bend and make many compromises because she has given me so much. I love her and feel that I would do anything for her. At times I felt so much pain because of the way she pushes me occasionally. But she has been smart enough to explain her reasons to me especially when she has her period. After that is over, she normally cools down and becomes gentle. I have reflected on how I felt and how much value I place in our relationship and the value she shows as well. After careful deliberation I can see that we both have strong personalities and that we both make compromises which is what a mature relationship is all about. I have learned this after 3 failed marriages. Keep in mind that I love my current partner with all my heart, something I never felt before. That has made a big difference not only in the quality of our relationship but also in the quality of my life.
