well, you really don't. they sort of stay apart of you forever, or until you've outgrowned them. trust me, I've been in this situation before. it's ok to think about them, and if you're still friends, talk to them. otherwise, just keep whatever thoughts about him/her to yourself. :)

You need to find someone that you like that likes you back, because if they don't like you back its not a good relationship, if you would even consider it a relationship at all. You deserve someone who likes you for who you are, and doesnt want you to be someone your not.
