There are two simple methods. Stop by your local Post Office and pick up the Official Change of Address form. It is also sometimes called the Mover's Guide. Inside is advertising for new residents, and the official form. Note: If you are filling this out for someone else, you have to sign it agreeing that you are the agent for that person (basically that it is OK with them for you to fill out the form.). If they fill out the form at their new Post Office, it is better, but you can do it after reading the fine print about the legal ramifications of putting in a Change of Address just to mess with someone. Fill out the name of the person, the old address, the new address (if you know it, otherwise put Moved Left No Forwarding), and then sign and date it. The Change of Address card has prepaid postage. Simply put the City, State and ZIP Code on the address side OF THE CITY THEY MOVED FROM. A little while after the card gets processed, the USPS sends out a confirmation letter to both old and new addresses to make sure there is no mistake. Usually the carrier knows this is forwarded mail, but if you get the letter, don't open it, just write on the front FORWARD. Their 1st class and 2nd class mail should start to get forwarded with little yellow stickers with the new address. One final note: Not all mail will get forwarded. There are catalogs that say "Or Current Resident", and those will continue to be delivered, unless you contact the mailer. You can also change the address online, if you are the person moving, because you need a valid credit card with the correct mailing address. For more information, go to www.usps.com, and click on Receiving Your Mail section, under Change of Address.

How do you forward mail from a previous tenant?

I've read on other sites that you can write "No longer at this address" on the letter and it will be returned to the post office and usually, if the previous tenant left the post office a forwarding address, they will forward it on, otherwise it will be sent back to the sender.

What does Unable to forward mean on a letter?

As addressed, when returned, no forwarding address was given or the forwarding time limit (usually one year) has expired and the USPO will no longer forward the mail. If the letter has no return address, then it goes into the dead letter file, where eventually it might get opened in search of finding a return name/address inside the envelope.

NFE on a returned letter typically stands for "No Forwarding Address." This means that the recipient's address is no longer valid, and the postal service was unable to deliver the letter because there is no updated address to forward it to. As a result, the letter is returned to the sender.
