Well, it may be a good idea to ask questions. If you want to keep the whole thing a surprise, then maybe you should ask vague questions such as "How did you always picture your proposal to be like?"

Don't mention you ideas to her. You do want to find out what she has always pictured it like though, so that you can make sure you go about it the right way. For example, your girl might have always thought that public proposals were not intimate and she may have always wanted to be proposed in private by a lake.

If you don't ask her and just make up your own ideas, then you may do it completely wrong. She might get a little upset when you bend down on one knee at a public restaurant or in front of family members. So find out what it is that she likes.
