How do you prove you are not clingy to a guy who said he only wants to be friends because you are to clingy?
Just say hi to him in the hallways at school. Talk to your friends in front of him, but don't ignore him. Make sure you spend time with him and all your friends.

I think the problem is actually more that he's not very interested in you right now, and because he isn't, he doesn't want your company as much as you want his. Try to treat him like any other friend. Talk to him, laugh with him, but also with everyone else. You could ask if he wanted to come along to the movies, and if he doesn't, react like you would if you had just asked any other friend: "Hmm, ok then, I'll ask the others." or something the like. Don't consider it something big and most of all NOT a date.
