Thinking of nothing may be considered to be the same as clearing one's mind. Human thought is stimulated by the senses, or by our own imagination and thoughts (e.g. if you debated an issue with yourself). It is easy to cease current thought processes by focusing on the environment, so this is a good place to start. When you stop thinking about the past, and the future, you have done half of the work. To do this, calm yourself. Put down what you are doing, and assign it a position of unimportance. This doesn't mean that you are now going to miss all of your deadlines because you forgot about them. It just means that, for now, you are immune to the effects of the future. You have plenty of time ahead of you, so just make sure that you make the most of this moment.

Next, you must blot out the present. Close your senses, so that you are only aware of yourself. Sit down calmly, and place your hands on your lap. Close your eyes. If possible, go somewhere dim, and quiet. Harsh lights and noises will stimulate thought (this includes screens like the one you're reading this from now). Focus on your breathing. Breathe tidally: in, and out, in a controlled manner.

Finally, let go of this, and focus on relaxation. Imagine a deep heat rising through your body, from your feet and fingertips until it reaches your head. When this is complete, you're away. Let go of all thoughts; past, present and future; and you have completed the process. In time, you will be able to do this in less controlled environments.
