Answer

A code of ethics means nothing in practice if committment to the truth is ignored. In my opinion, there is nothing that tops or is more important than committment to the truth. A code of ethics based on falsehood is not as meaningful as if based on truth. Many people have gotten caught up in this sort of thing not really meaning to do wrong or be unethical simply because it seems to be common practice and so widespread that, in fact, some would react to you with surprise almost to the point of making fun of you if you don't go along with the plan. It happens to the best of people many times because they feel there's not really anything TOO wrong with doing things that way even though it might be sort of cheating a little bit but not really hurting anyone. However, it can many times, I am assuming, turn into something much bigger than you imagined and bite you. There have been many good people that got caught up in things that they really didn't deserve. It doesn't make them bad people. They just got tangled up with some bad ones.
