Think of something that you need help with. Don't make it something to hard to do. Make it something easy. If he does help you thank him and give him a reward , such as making him a cake, or buying him lunch. If he will not help after you ask then I would say that he is just not that into you. At least it is worth a try.

He could help you study for a text. Write out questions and the answers. Then it will be easy for him. All he has to do is read the question. You answer it. He will tell you if you are right, because he has the answer written down.

Just ask to be friends first and wait to see if is ex-girlfriend is really over him so no problems accur and then when you two are just hanging out, ask him for a real date.

Give her some time then call her and tell her to meet you somewhere and ask her out.
