It could mean one of a lot of things...

Like maybe he is lonely and needs some attention.

It could be a stepping stone process that he is doing in order

to heal the wound from his ex girlfriend. I.E. Rebound Woman

Maybe he didn't love her, maybe it was only LUST the entire time.

Its based on a lot of factors. Well i don't think he would like her anymore like he has another girlfriend i guess he would ignore her but then again he would has to make a choice on who was better Or it could just mean he wants 2 make her Jealous by getting with another girl!
