How much confidence can you possibly have in eighth grade? Gosh! i am 36 years old and i am still better at talking with people on line than i am in person! I actually got fired from a job once for having a flubber tongue (i kept stuttering when i would answer the phone) give the kid a LOT of support and make him feel comfortable. Just listen quietly and don't talk. honestly what i have done when i was in eight grade was that i made a funny but cute joke that broke the ice... once you do that you automaticlly have to not be shy so that your boyfriend or girlfriend (it works for both i personally am a girl so i tried it on a boy) can get used to you not being shy and he'll do the same trust me it worked for me....
