It's obvious you are serious about this guy so asking a guy to meet your parents over dinner (just not coming into their home and saying hi) means more. If it means nothing more than a dinner, then communicate this to him. Tell him there are no strings attached. Of course he's afraid and you should communicate your actions more clearly to him.
