Extremely important as long as they are good solid trusting friends. When I first got married I moved a thousand miles away where we knew no one. My husband was very dependent on me for every second of his happiness (something I didn't see for a long time). I had a few friends but he was jealous of my time with them and felt betrayed when I wanted to hang out with the girls or coworkers. By stark contrast he had NO buddies with whom he could confide. As a result, we were miserable and no longer married. I will never make that mistake again. Most people MUST have a social network of at least a few good friends and family members. But let me say this: When you are in a relationship you want to be able to TRUST your significant other with very intimate thoughts and experiences. If you go blab to your friends about his inner most fears (or worse yet the intimate details of you sex life???).... then what a betrayal that is to the one you love. Don't do that, and don't allow him to do that to you. But on the other hand you DO NEED friends outside the love relationship (usually same sex friends) simply to fill the gap your significant other cannot. Two people in a love relationship who expect to be EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING to each other are fooling themselves. Be careful to hang with people who respect your relationship and will be protective and help you make it work. But by all means foster and develop great friendships with people who care for you. And friends who are smarter than you are a HUGE plus!!!!!
Many people have faith which is having a complete trust or confidence in something. The importance of having faith in ones life is simply having something to believe in.
