we can presume he is a man as it was traditional for men's names to have two initials in front of his surnames and women only to have one if he/she was writing/publishing a book. for instance a women named Jane Jenny Smith would have the initials J. Smith and yet a man named John James Smith would have the initials J.J. Smith. his not quite balanced views on womens rights could bring us to the conclusion that it is heavily implied the writer is male.
