Yes. It can damage your skin cells which later shows up as skin cancer. Depending on your skin type it the damage can be greater for people with fair skin than darker skin types, but both can get cancer. This damage doesn't show up until later and when it is found it has to be removed. I have had this done and it isn't fun. Stitches are involved and they cut into your skin to remove all of it. I would suggest instead of having to go through this you not get a tan.
