Is it okay to date your best friends ex?

Ask your best friend tactfully how they would feel - maybe use an imaginary scenario. Then you could say something like 'So it wouldn't bother you if I asked (name) out for a drink then?'. You will probably have a good idea if your friend is still emotionally involved though in which case maybe you should leave it a while. If not then there shouldn't be a problem.

I am a girl and my best friend used to "have relations" with this guy, now they were never dating but now me and her don't talk as much because of silly drama and if i were to date him she would think im doing it to get back at her or that im thinking about her and my intentions are bad, but i seriously like him. Idk what to do, but in my head im saying no. She confided in me and trusted that i wouldn't like him and just cause were not as close anymore doesn't mean i can like him now. be a good friend and say no...but what if its true love and im turning my back on it ahhh help me too!

• It depends on how your friend feels about the ex. If they agreed to break up but stay friends, there shouldn't be any problem for you. However if they broke up in a fight and now can't stand each other, your friend might not like it, so if you care about your friend's opinion you might have to talk with him/her about it.

You need to talk to your best friend first. If your best friend tells you it's okay, you still need to check with their friends and family. Ask your friend's siblings first (sometimes the parents could be mad at you for asking). Ask the sibling if they know if the best friend is still upset about the breakup. Consider what the sibling has said and ask the best friend's friends as well. The sibling and friends are going to give you a more truthful answer than the best friend will because the best friend will most likely tell you that it's okay even if they aren't ready yet.

If you get the okay, make sure to wait at least a week or so. If you start dating a day later or even the day of, you could seriously upset the best friend and make them feel unloved.

Ask yourself if the guy/girl is worth messing up the friendship you have with your friend. Just remember, this person might be with you for a couple months but your friendship could last forever. Don't try to hurt anyone's feelings, the best friend or the ex.
