Don't say anything you wouldn't want your mom to read. Parents can access your chats on AOL and might do it on other systems. Parents can't access the logs of most instant messaging systems these days. Even AOL can be configured to not log chat conversations in a matter of minutes. As for conversations being passed around, i will say that is a good bit of advice to follow.
