Babies are born with about 20/400 vision. They do respond to patterns even though they are not clear.... so the general pattern of the human face (eyes, nose, mouth, oval shape) actually gets their attention more. Best vision is about 8 to 20 inches from the baby's eyes. They don't get much color discrimination for the first few months. If you are thinking they are smiling at you when you lean over them and makes those baby noises.... well, it's probably for a different reason altogether... :-) good
