• When individuals do not get married and wait until their late 20's to possibly their 40's many of the opposite sex are already married or divorced. Some individuals seek dating services, but they are not as reliable as they lead people to believe. It basically becomes more difficult to meet someone your own age or even a few years younger or older that you are compatible with, but it can happen.

Disadvantages to delayed age of marriage include:

1) Decreasing fertility

2) Children born to older women are more prone to birth defects such as Down's Syndrome (although the risk doesn't get very high until after about age 40)

3) Decreased energy to play with the kids

4) The longer you are single, the more you get used to doing things "your way" and the more difficult it can become to adapt to working with another person and compromising to develop "our way"

5) As your age increases, the pool of satisfactory people near your own age decreases. It becomes more of an "all the good ones are taken" situation. Although marriage between people of very different ages can succeed, the more two people have in common - including being of similar age - the easier it usually is to be on the same page when you have to work things out.

6) As you get older, your health is usually not as good as it was when you were younger

7) Delaying marriage means less time to spend with the wonderful person you marry - assuming you are both absolutely committed to making it work and growing as a couple.
