modern youth?

IDENTITY.

going through everday life trying to answer the question, "who am i?"

teens try to answer the question through:

status symbols. Teens will try to establish themselves through wearing the right clothes and having the right possessions. These help form teen identities by expressing affiliation with specific groups.

forbidden behaviors. Teens can feel that acting more mature will bring acceptance. They might began in acts such as smoking, drinking, drugs and sexual activity.

rebellion. Rebellion=separation. Rebelling can show that they differentiate themselves from parents and other authority, while keeping the acceptance of their friends.

idols. Celebrities may become role models for teens. They may identify a celebrity and will try to become like that person. Unfortunately, doing so can cause them to lose their own identities.

cliques. Teens do not want to be associated with anyone having unacceptable or unattractive characteristics. They often try to strengthen their own identities by excluding those who are not like them.
