I am not a psych. professional but I do believe that "Sponsors" gains are all intrinsic! You sponsor events, people, scholarships, etc. because its the right thing to do as well as the benefit for others. We all should learn to do things when "you" don't necessarily get personal gain in return. Example: you sponsor an event to raise money for cancer. The sponsor gains the peace of mind of knowing they helped others by raising money for research... you sponsor someone who might be addicted, you do this to help THEM but in return you get personal satisfaction as well as help keep yourself in check if indeed you need to be in "check". More people should "sponsor" something for the sheer purpose of 'Doing for others with no intention of getting something in return"... besides a peaceful heart!
Some commercial sponsors see it more as a win win situation - both sides stand to gain from the arrangement. Brand awareness or building a positive reputation are common themes.
