A simple "I'm so sorry" is the best thing you can say. What is most important is to be there for her...and let her vent. Trying to make it better is not the thing to do at this time. Let her cry and be angry or sad or anything else, but don't try to cheer her up. Your very presence is a comfort and she needs to grieve in order to get over her friend's death. Later, when she has had time to grieve, ask if you can help. The best thing is always just say, "I'm so sorry". That's enough.
