There Brothers
In Chapter 7 of "The Outsiders," Pony and Darry's relationship begins to evolve as they start to understand each other better. After the incident with Johnny and Dally, Darry shows genuine concern for Pony's well-being, revealing a softer side that helps bridge the emotional gap between them. For instance, when Darry expresses relief that Pony is safe after the rumble, it highlights his protective nature and deep care, suggesting that Pony may start to see Darry less as an authoritative figure and more as a caring brother. This shift indicates a growing mutual respect and understanding, fostering a more supportive bond between them.

Darry disliked Paul Holden because he was a Soc and represented the privileged, wealthy group that often looked down on Greasers like Darry. Additionally, Paul had been involved in conflicts with the Curtis brothers in the past, igniting animosity between them.
Darry was not really jealous per say. I think the only thing he was jealous about was because the socs have the easy life. Their parents are not only alive, but pay for their schooling such as college. Darry can not have that because he has to work two jobs and support his brothers. Darry had to give up dream of going to college so that why I think he is jealous. As for the ashamed part, Darry had to fight some of his old friends, who are socs. He was probably ashamed because he realizes he might have acted like a stuck up person like the socs when he hung out with them and played football with them. That all came to end when Darry's parents died. So basically Darry might have saw the way he acted before and he does not like what he sees.
